Becoming an Apprentice

Kindra wants more than anything to be a midwife. Going to the Healer Hall helps her achieve that goal.

Kestra looks up from her postings, "Hello, I'm Master Kestra" she says as
she rises from her chair and holds out her hand.

Kindra(#618Pce)

Sparkling hazel eyes glance around frequently, while
shoulder-length coppery hair often is twined around a finger as this
woman scans her surroundings. She's short, not quite reaching five feet
tall, and is light enough to seem likely to blow away in a good stiff
breeze. A deep blue tunic and long skirt is her usual outfit, and she
favors sandals as shoes. Her face is oval, with the faintest trace of
faded freckles, and her nose is just a bit too large for true beauty. Her
hands, though, are dextrous and capable, maybe the strongest-looking
parts of her.

Kindra glances around, then steps forward, smiling. "Good evening, Master
Kestra." She covers her hand with yours. "I'm Kindra of Lemos Hold." Her
grip is strong but not crushing, and her hands are also warm.

Kestra looks down at her notes, "Ah yes, Kindra....please, have a seat."
Kestra motions to a chair as she retakes her seat, "How is Lemos this
time of year? Fair weather for travel?"

Kindra nods. "It's been a fair, clear spring so far, and the roads were a
bit damp in places but passable."

Kestra looks over the application for a moment before looking up, "I see
here you've helped with midwiving before?"

Kindra nods. "I've been helping out since I was just little, Master. I've
been delivering on my own for some five turns now, when I'm needed. Only
in emergencies though!" she hastens to add.

Kestra nods, "And how old are you now, Kindra?" she asks politely.

You say "Sixteen, Master. Almost seventeen."

Kestra leans back a moment, "Let's go over the few rules we have here at
the Hall"

Kindra nods, listening attentively.

Kestra says "Now, you do know you'll be required to live at the Hall.
You'll have duties as well as classes and studying to occupy your time so
personal relationships will need to be put on hold. Once you enter,
you'll need to gain the rank of J'man before you'll be released for any
searches." Leaning forward she asks, "Do any of these rules create a
problem?""

Kindra shakes her head. "I didn't really have any relationships, Master.
I see so many babies, I don't have time to risk one of my own!" She tries
a smile at that.

Kestra laughs at the comment, "I can see your position on that, Kindra.
Any questions for me?"

Kindra nods. "Yes'm. Will I be assisting for a while, or will I be
studying only?"

Kestra thinks for a bit, "We'll start you on your studies to begin with,
let you get settled and then see how much you've learned while assisting"

Kindra nods. "In that case, Master, I don't really have any other
questions."

Kestra stands and holds out her palm, "Welcome to the craft, Kindra" she
smiles

Kindra gives you a wide smile, and covers your palm again. "It's an honor
to study with you. Master. I hope I meet your expectations."

Kestra smiles, "I'm sure you will exceed my expectations. Now, let's see
about getting you moved in"

Kindra nods. "I didn't bring much, Master. My tools and a few changes of
clothes are about all. I'll be in the apprentice dorm?"

Stuart steps into the room and sees that the Master has someone in there,
and immediately turns to step back out again.

Kindra glances behind her and offers the man an uncertain smile.

He looks around with a distinct air of total business. Nothing he
does is for fun, all has a specific purpose. His cropped black hair peeks
out from the top of his head. His dark brown eyes take in everything
around him. He rather tall, with a somewhat athletic build.
He wears a bright white tunic, almost spotless, with deep black
trousers. He has costume made shoes on his feet. His knot declares him to
be the personal assistant to the Healer Craftmaster.

Kestra says "Yes, and here is just the person to helps accomplish that"
she motions Stuart back in the room, "Stuart, come meet Kindra""

Stuart stops midstride and turns back around. "Yes, m'am? What is it I
can do for you?"

Kindra extends her hand. "It's good to meet you, sir."

She turns back to Kindra, "Stuart is the Head Steward here at the Hall
and the person who keeps it running smoothly for all of us." Turning to
the Head Steward, "Stuart, this is Kindra, our newest apprentice. She'll
be needing a cot in the dorm"

Stuart looks down at the hand for a moment, then reluctantly accepts it.
He turns again, all business to Kestra. "Certainly. Is there anything
else?"

Kestra looks to Kindra, "Are you hungry? Here I am interviewing you when
you first arrive and I didn't even think to see about getting you
something to eat or drink."

Kindra retrieves her hand and nods. "Truth told, I didn't eat at noon,
Master. I was, well, a bit excited." She flushes slightly.

Kestra laughs and turns to Stuart, "Do you think Cook has anything on
that stove of hers, Stuart? I seem to have done it again"

Stuart gives a nod. "I'm sure it will be fine. If not, she can reheat
something."

Kindra waits, eyes scannig the room, taking in everything.

Kestra moves toward the door, "Let's see what we can find in the kitchen
for you then, Kindra. Will you be joining us, Stuart?"

Stuart replies. "I'll be seeing if we can find a cot for the new
apprentice."

Kestra nods and moves out the door
Kestra opens the door and quietly leaves the Lecture Hall.

Kindra follows the Master.
