J'on's Proddy!

There comes a time in every greenrider's life...

You dismount Linneth, who crouches to minimize the drop.

Field outside the Main Entrance
Activity surrounds you as you gaze over the road which runs beneath the
huge cliffs which form the southeastern section of the Igen Weyr Bowl.
The wall opens here in three places... the middle one seems the most busy
although the northernmost one is the largest. The ground under your feet
is solid and rocky, and in the brightest sun it glares uncomfortably.
To the north the road continues, winding its way past the hatching
grounds and barracks to eventually leave the bowl. Cutting across the
bowl to the northwest brings you to the center of the bowl. To the west
lies a green field full of beasts- the Weyr's feeding grounds. The
infirmary weyr opens to the northeast, and the living caverns to the
east.

Eosith rises up on his haunches, blatting loudly at Linneth, all thoughts
of Libeth drive from his head.

J'on slides off Linneth's neck and gives her a pat and a hug, pausing
before going to get dinner. Is she a little brighter today..? She looks
more like Telgar's fields in sun than shadow at the moment.

Dragon> Eosith bespoke Linneth with << Linneth! Linneth the lovely! Come
lie beside me? >>

Linneth> I bespoke Eosith with << You are noisy today! >>

Aisheth bides his time and expertly assesses Linneth's colouring. He
warbles a welcome to her.

J'on lets go and trots into the living cavern, oblivious to anything but
food now.

You head into the Igen Weyr Living Cavern.
Igen Weyr Living Cavern(#600RJMQ)
Igen's living cavern is an immense hollow in the volcanic caldera,
stretching up two stories, the light of the glows and the hearth
reflected in the quartz which peppers the swirled sandstone unique to
this region. One hundred feet wide and one hundred and fifty feet long,
the room could, and, as the social center of the weyr, often does, seat
the entire weyr. Tapestries adorn the walls, depicting scenes from Pern's
past. The head table sits upon a raised platform at the far eastern side
of the room, in front of a huge fireplace which is continually burning.
A wide balcony overlooks the cavern, and large tunnels lead west out to
the bowl, and south to the kitchens. A smaller tunnel leads off to the
east, beyond which lay the inner caverns of the Weyr. A small doorway in
the northern wall opens to the infirmary, and a quiet door to the
northeast opens into the Records Room. In the corner one may +view a
plaque.
Tables fill a good portion of the room. One can '+view' them at a glance,
or get '+help places'.

J'on jogs in, singing out "HAP-PY TURNOVER!"

Kyliven chuckles. "I should hope not. Eosith does, though, and he..." she
turns as J'on bellows his way inside. "Hey, J'on! Come join us?"

P'ter laughs, "Happy turnover to you too J'on. How are you and Linneth?"

Sarai grimaces at the caroling J'on. Happy. Yeah yeah. She's not.

You say "We're FINE! In a great mood, actually!"

Linneth> Linneth responds warmly to Aisheth's greeting, her eyes turned
slightly down coquettishly.

Linneth> Eosith harumphs and shoots Aisheth a dirty glance before
settling down on his haunches. Linneth gets a plaintive wurble.

Linneth> I bespoke Eosith with << Oh, Eosith, I NEVER get to spend time
with Aisheth...I still like you. >>

Kyliven grins and beckons the cheerful J'on over. "We're tasting a Benden
red -- want some?"

Linneth> Aisheth snorts in a hearty fasion and the big bronze leaves his
lovely patch of warm sand and moves a wing length down sun.

J'on bounces over to the food table and starts piling it up. Then.
uncharacteristically, he nods to the invitation. "Love to, thanks!"

Sarai folds her arms across her chest and sits quietly.

Dragon> Eosith bespoke Linneth with << You do? >> He straightens his
shoulders, wings rustling quietly. << You are the prettiest green,
Linneth. >> >>

Dragon> Aisheth bespoke Linneth with << Would you care to have this spot
I had, the sand is deep, and warm. >>

P'ter nods, "OK J'on." He grabs another glass and fills it for him. "Here
you go. This is some of the good stuff."

Kyliven quirks an inquisitive eyebrow at Sarai before addressing J'on
again. "You /are/ in a good mood. Anything special happen?"

Linneth> Linneth moves over to the spot Aisheth vacated, eyes deep blues
and greens. Clearly, she and her rider are sharing a mood at the moment.

You say "Nothing special, I just love Turnover. Although this year seems
better for some reason." He grins engagingly. "Maybe it's because this
year, I have Linneth and I've graduated!"

Linneth> Aisheth tilts his head to Linneth and croons as she takes his
place.

Linneth> Eosith pops his head over Libeth's back again and stares daggers
at Aisheth before lowering his gaze to Linneth. He wurbles again, this
time with a bit of worry to his tone.

Sarai's J'on's inverse, and is just moody and irrationally quiet.

Dragon> Aisheth bespoke Linneth with << You are looking a wonderful green
today Linneth, you even outshine the golds if I may be as bold to say so.
>>

Kyliven grins. "There is that," she agrees, hooking a foot around a leg
of a chair and dragging it out for J'on to perch in. "There ya go. Say,
Eosith's getting all jealous of Aisheth, P'ter," she informs the
bronzerider with a grin.

Linneth> Aisheth senses that Linneth thinks it's so nice of you to
notice!

Dragon> Aisheth and Linneth sense that Eosith grumps, << Linneth likes me
far better than she does you anyway. >>

P'ter nods, "I know, I know. I've been keeping up on what he's doing." --
"Oh dear. He seems to have really put Eosith's nose out of joint. My
apologies Kyliven."

J'on plops himself down and starts in on the food. "Mmmm...did someone
slip Ayla extra marks? This is really good!"

Kyliven grins easily. "No worries, P'ter. Eosith's trying to claim all
greens for himself, and especially Linneth. RIght, J'on?"

P'ter blinks at J'on. "Aisheth informs me that Linneth is looking
wonderful today J'on. He wishes me to compliment you in the care you take
of your dragons hide."

Dragon> Linneth senses that Cyrath wonders if Eosith's still flirting
with you?

Sarai regarsd J'on, "It's the same food we have every month..."

You say "Thank, P'ter, and tell Aisheth that Linneth is naturally
beautiful. I just make sure she gets attention so it shows."

P'ter nods to J'on, "So Aisheth seems to believe."

J'on grins at Kyliven, nodding, and then sips his wine and giggles at
Sarai. "Really? Maybe I'm just hungry then."

P'ter empties his glass, "Anyway, I'm off to make sure that that blue in
the infirmary is alseep like I told him he should be. I'll be back later.
OK?"

Linneth> I bespoke Cyrath with << More like giving Aisheth dirty looks.
>>

You say "Take care! Happy Turnover!"

Kyliven nods. "Take care, P'ter."

Dragon> Cyrath bespoke Linneth with << Blues are weird. I like browns.
They're much nicer. >>

P'ter waves to all and sundry and departs, bring careful not to bang the
infirmary door least he wake a sleeping dragon.

Sarai shrugs and waves a bit to P'ter/.

Linneth> I bespoke Cyrath with << Ranth isn't so bad. Tivuketh is VERY
nice. >>

P'ter enters the Infirmary.

Kyliven eyes that giggle. Someone /is/ in a good mood. "Linneth -does-
look especially lovely today, Eosith tells me, J'on."

Dragon> Cyrath bespoke Linneth with << I suppose. I prefer Idrelth. >>

You say "We had sweeps really early, so I got to pend some extra time
with her. I'm glad it shows."

Linneth> I bespoke Cyrath with << He only pays attention to me when
you're not around. >>

Kyliven says "Dawn sweeps? Ick. Yeah, she looks like she's all soft and
glowy today -- like you've spent hours washing and oiling her. Really
nice, J'on."

Dragon> Linneth senses that Cyrath thinks about that, amused.

J'on beams with pleasure.

Sarai looks at J'on and then Kyli, and then stands up. Scratching the
side of her head, she says, simplt, "S'cuse me."

You say "Sarai! Where are you going, the night's still young?"

Sarai looks at J'on, "I don't know...someplace quiet and outside..." And
she starts for the stairs...

You say "Sarai?"

Kyliven frowns at Sarai but turns away, unwilling to let Miss
Grumpy-Butt ruin her good mood.

Sarai stops at the foot and turns to J'on. Her face is just tired and
not happy. "yeah?"

You say "Maybe later, dwe could go to the Butte and watch the Dawn
Sisters rise?"

Sarai blinks a few times and dreges up a faint essence of a smile,
"Sure..."

J'on smiles, an open smile instead of his usual grin. "I'll have
Linneth bespeak Cyrath for it, then."

Kyliven, turned away, grumbles to herself and takes another sip of
wine. Nearly the perfect picture of disgruntled drinker, except for
the teeny tiny sips she's taking.

Sarai nods and does dart up the stairs now tho.
Sarai climbs the stairs, past the balcony and up to the upper hallway.

Dragon> Linneth senses that Cyrath grumbelsand just doesn't understand
her rider sometimes.

Linneth> I bespoke Cyrath with << What is wrong with her? >>

J'on turns back with a cheerful grin. "Anyway. Where were we? Oh!
Eosith..."

Dragon> Cyrath bespoke Linneth with << She gets like this. She misses
her mother. >>

Kyliven shakes her head. "How come, when -I- ask her to leave the Weyr
with me, she gets crankier? /You/ say things about leaving the Weyr,
and she agrees! Shells." Someone doesn't want to talk about Eosith, it
seems.

J'on says sanginuely, "It's my natural charisma." The effect is spoiled
by his inability to keep a straight face.

Kyliven snorts and stands, abandoning her wine and water glasses. "Sure.
Whatever. It's getting pretty tiresome, though. I /thought/ we were
friends. Silly me. Anyway. I shouldn't take out my bad mood on you,
J'on -- not when you're so cheerful. You take care of Linneth, alright?"
She gives the greenrider a tight smile, arms wrapped around herself.
"Eosith and I are... shells, I dunno. Gonna go fly somewhere."

Linneth> Eosith peers over Libeth and rumbles.

J'on chuckles. "Go on, have fun.

Kyliven reaches out to give him a quick pat on the shoulder, then she's
padding outside with nary a glance for the upper stairs.
Kyliven walks out to the Bowl.
Linneth> Kyliven walks out from the Weyr's Living Cavern.
Linneth> Kyliven climbs up and settles herself comfortably on Eosith's
neck. Her playful pat is greeted with a excited rumbling from Eosith.

Linneth> Eosith tenses, then springs upwards.
IgenW-Bowl> Just overhead, Eosith catches an updraft to glide into the
air of the Bowl.
IgenW-Bowl> Just overhead, Eosith beats his wings powerfully.
IgenW-Bowl> Midway up in the Bowl, Eosith swoops higher up into the Bowl.
IgenW-Bowl> Midway up in the Bowl, Eosith glides down towards a quiet
section of the eastern cliff face and Eosith's ledge.

Mikkyo appears from *between*, a rush of icy air and a flash of silvery
blue brilliance announcing his presence.
Mikkyo chirples a welcome as he glides to a perch overhead.

J'on glances up.

J'on sips wine again, then says "Hello, little one."

Mikkyo croons warmly and cocks his head, turning one whirling blue eye
on the dragonrider.

You say "Where's your pet?"

Mikkyo chitters excitedly and leans to look at the greenrider in the
eye. His silly human thing likes runner beasts.

You say "really? Is she out there at the stables, then?"

Mikkyo rustles his wings and switches his tail. He is a messanger NOT a
hunter of tunnel snakes!
Mikkyo calms slightly and sends an afirmative thought of Candra to the
greenrider.

J'on grins. "Sorry, sorry...

Linneth> Candra walks over from the center of the bowl.

J'on sings to himself softly.

Linneth> Candra heads through the main entrance, into the Weyr's Living
Cavern.
Candra comes in from the Bowl.

J'on looks up and waves. "Happy Turnover!"

Candra smiles and curtsies respectfully to the greenrider. "Good
evening."

J'on certainly looks happy. If that was his green outside, she was a
little brighter thanm most..

Candra chuckles. "My little blue tells me that he was talking with a
dragonrider"

You say "Oh, was he yours? He's nice. Very determined."

Candra smiles softly. "He is very cleaver and a good messenger, but he
sometimes lkes to go off alone. He is bored with the stables.

J'on grins. "Independance isn't a bad thing."

Candra says "Linneth is looking particularly radiant this evening."
Candra smiles slyly at the greenrider.

You say "Isn't she? I paid a lot of attention to her today..yours is the
third compliment I've gotten."

Candra says "I am sure that you pay alot of attention to her always."
Candra chuckles warmly.

You say "Of course I do!"

Candra blushes. "Oh! I have forgotten my manners. I am Candra Uma. I am
a stablehand and a dragonhealer in training here at Igen Weyr."
Candra curtsies again.

You say "Nice to meet you, Candra! I take it you've met Linneth before,
I'm J'on."

Candra nods affirmatively. "Yes. She is beautiful.Well met J'on."

You say "Care for some wine? I was just enjoying a Turnover glass."
J'on doesn't normally drink, according to rumor.

Candra smiles gratefully at J'on. That would be nice, but I have some
chores to do right now. I shopould be going."

J'on nods, muttering something about chores on Turnover!

Linneth> I bespoke Cyrath with << My rider wonders if yours is feeling
better. >>

Dragon> Cyrath bespoke Linneth with << She is mostly...She just does
not wish to be around many people. >>

Linneth> Cyrath senses that Linneth will tell him.

Candra sighs deeply. "Well, I really must be going now."

J'on grins. "Don't get in trouble!"

Candra smiles and waves farewell to J'on.
Candra strides through the passageway into the Inner Caverns.

Dragon> Linneth senses that Cyrath thinks your rider would be fine, but
not his whole wing. That was an example.

J'on sits for a moment, thinking.

J'on grins to himself, scoops up a slightly less-full wineskin, and
heads out.
You walk out into the Bowl.

Linneth(#13222apqs)

Soft green hide sheaths muscle, supporting you as you mount
Linneth. She glances back to you, eyes whirling slowly, and observes as
you settle yourself onto her back. She may look small next to the larger
colors, but Linneth's back is a secure place to be. As you buckle
yourself in, you feel more than hear a soft rumble from her.

You swing up into Linneth's back as she crouches to assist you.

J'on urges Linneth upward, to join her clutchsister.

You spring into the air of the Bowl.

J'on calls down "Do you mind company?"

Near Linneth, Sarai lies on her stomach, on a smooth rock, watching the
desert evening t the west of the weyr. Cyrath croons happily and her
rider blinks to sitting up. "J'on...no, I don't mind."

J'on slides down, to the accompaniement of Linneth's soft croon. In the
evening light, the green has an almost lambent quality.

You dismount Linneth, who crouches to minimize the drop.
On the Rim Overlooking the Desert(#782RJ)
The rim of the Bowl is wide and flat here, providing one of the most
spectacular views in the region. Stretching out to the west is the Igen
desert, its red and yellow sands shifting in ever changing patterns of
dunes and valleys. Occasionally a section will be swept threadbare and
from here you can just barely make out the unusual honeycombed rock.
When the sun is at its zenith, it catches quartz overlay and the entire
landscape seems to glitter as if jeweled. The night is no less
spectacular, for Timor and Belior cast an eerie glow over the desolate
area that seems to promise that anything is possible. The most striking
time of day, however, is sunset, for at this time Rukbat casts its
fiery rays across the sky and desert, seeming to set the dunes ablaze,
while the sky above is spattered in orange, red, purple, and finally, a
deep midnight blue.
The only way off the Rim is a-dragonback.

Sarai looks at Linneth for a moment, blinking at her...sheen. But, all
she says is, "Hi."

You say "I brought some wine, and two mugs."
J'on's voice is quiet, especially compared to his earlier caroling.

Sarai ohs and shakes her head, "Thanks... but I can't drink wine." She
seems appreciative of the lack of noise tho.

You say "Why not? Does it make you sick?"
J'on crouches by you, pushing back his goggles.

Sarai hesitates for a moment and then crosses her legs under her. "Sort
of...It's... hard to expline..."

Linneth settles herself down on the rim, looking out over the bowl.

You say "We have time, Sarai, and I don't have to go anywhere."

Cyrath plops her head back down with a simple drop. Sarai glances at
the dragon and says, "Well." She pauses and looks at J'on, then her
hands. "My. Grandda, and my- mother... they," a have waves, impotently,
"died. Drinking..."

You say "Died of drink, or died while drinking?"
J'on's voice is soft.

Sarai says "Of drink." the elaboration. "And the healers said my mother
was too young...So... I'm not supposed to drink. In case it's something
else."

J'on nods, settling the wineskin down beside him. "How old were you?"

Sarai exhales a bit and thinks. "Six? I think. almost Seven."

You say "Awful young to lose someone..."

Sarai shrugs, mostly resigned. "Not like I had a say it in...I know she
didn't mean to tho..."

You say "Doesn't mean it didn't hurt a lot. Do you cry?"

Sarai nods a bit, "I used to cry lots..."

J'on goes from a crouch to sitting beside you. "Is that why you felt bad
earlier? Because we were all drinking?

Sarai shakes her head, "Not really... I... I'm just more touchy this
time of turn..." Hands run through hair and link behind Sarai's olivey-
tan neck. "See... Tonight... Turnover... It's mom's turnday..."

J'on nods sympathetically. "And you miss her."

Sarai presses her elbows togeather, hiding much of her face in the
cradle between her arms. Softly, she says, "Yes."

J'on reaches out and strokes her back. "Tell me about her, if it won't
hurt more?"

Sarai sniffs a bit, "I... just remember she was really tall. And had
red hair... and she sang to me..."

You say "What did she sing?"

Sarai leans a little bit towards J'on, "Songs about people like us.
Farmers and beast tenders."

J'on turns the stroking into a light massage. "Like 'Three gone
milking'?"

Sarai sighs and smiles a bit, "Yeah. And 'Red River Valley'

You say "I don't think I know that one."

Sarai unclasps her hands and rests them on her legs. "It's one my
grandmum sings too. To people who're gone away." Speaking the words,
Sarai offers some of it, "From this valley they say you are going. We
will miss your bright eyes and bright smile..."

J'on's hands are warm on your neck, the calluses a bit rough on the
skin.

Sarai is quiet for a while, and then asks, "How come you make me feel
better?"

You say "Because you know I care, and you can be yourself if you want."

Sarai turns her head to look at J'on, and smile shyly. "Yeah...That
sounds right."

J'on slides his arms around you in a hug. "You're a good friend,
Sarai."

Sarai is slightly surprised, but slides her arms around J'on to hug
back. "I should be saying that," she says softly.

J'on grins, a little impishly. "Beat ya to it!"

Sarai impulsivly kisses J'on's cheek. "Thank you."

J'on nuzzles yours. "Welcome." He smells of dragon, and the oil he uses
on Linneth..which smells lightly herbal.

Sarai blinks a bit at J'on's nuzzle, but doesn't pull away. She rests
her cheek against J'on's, silent. He smells of stone to, which isn't an
unpleasant combination.

J'on keeps rubbing his cheek on yours, as if he's unaware he's doing it,
but he's not attempting anything that would raise a blush on Lyndra's
cheeks. OK, well, maybe Lyndra's, but CERTAINLY not Lyria's.

Sarai's being nuzzeld by a greenrider, which is altogeather a rather
nice sensation. Her hands slid out of their hug of J'on, and up to cup
his face.

J'on looks down and gives you that same open smile.

Sarai looks at that open smile, and those emerald eyes. her own green-
gold a soft shade of near caramel, flecked with apple green. And she
kisses J'on's lips.

Linneth hums, a note echoed by a soft rumble in J'on's throat as he
responds. His lips are rough, too, from wind-chapping, but his embrace
tightens to support you.

Dragon> Linneth senses that Cyrath snorts, thinking it took them long
enough.

Sarai's eyes close and her hands are soft on the sides of your face.
Long fingers delicately brushing the hair by your ears.

J'on's lips part slightly, and he starts to pull you into his lap.

Linneth> I bespoke Cyrath with << They match well. >>

Dragon> Linneth senses that Cyrath agrees. << Especially their eyes. >>

Sarai unfolds her legs from underneath her, hands moving to your
shoulders as she inches closer.

J'on rumbles in his chest again, stroking your side with one hand as
soon as he's sure you're not offbalance. His tongue touches your lips
gently, as if asking permission.

Sarai is hesitant, but completely trusting of J'on, and opens her mouth
slowly. He smells so nice.

...and Katany calls for Sarai, and the pair have to stop kissing. But they were both in better moods.
