Alexandria's Library -- Main Room(#6145RJLM56) What IS this place, anyway? Is it a bar? A library? A game room? Who the heck knows? For that matter, who cares? Alexandria's is a pub, with a full liquor license, live music, and dancing...but the decor is early antique store, with odd pieces of kitsch, shelves of books, and a stage decorated with old science fiction magazine covers. The bar, long, heavy, and carved, might have once been a fixture in a church or a train section, and behind it centered with a spotlight is the house mascot, a table lamp shaped like a hula girl, colored garishly. OutAlexandria's is a Darkzone. Shadows retreat from the city as the sun rises over the eastern edge of the valley. Roberta is sitting at the bar quietly sipping from a coffee cup. Melody wanders in, glancing at a notebook. Roberta looks over at Melody, looking nervous. ((Roberta's desc)) This is a shortish young woman, in her late teans. Her black hair is streight and cropped short and her skin is heavly freckled, untanned but not pale. Her face is pretty bland, and unremarkable, though her eyes are a rich brown. She's of fairly stocky build, and she's no one's beauty. Currently she's wearing an opaque top, pattened in blue and grey stripes. Worn a little in patches, you can see thin white fabric underneath. Her skirt is made of blue fabric, with small white flowers. It reaches down to her boots. Melody sits down at a table, missing Roberta's gaze, and glances at her watch. Melody sits at The small table in the dark corner. Roberta calls softly "Excuse me miss?" Melody looks over. "Hmmm?" Roberta says, "Are you Miss Melody?" Melody grins. "I'm Melody, but not MISS Melody, yeah." Roberta says, "I'm Roberta." She stands up and moves to your table. "It's a pleausre to meet you." Roberta stands and leaves Roberta gets up from The bar. Melody takes your hand and shakes it, her grip not too firm. "You left me voice mail, right?" Roberta sits at The small table in the dark corner. At your table, Melody says "You answered my voice mail, right?" At your table, Roberta nods "That was me, yes." At your table, Melody says "Tell me a little about yourself?" At your table, Roberta says "Me? Um, I'm an arts student at the university. I study art there. I'm not very interesting but I do good artwork." At your table, Melody says "Yeah? What kind of subjects?" At your table, Roberta says "I mostly do wood sculpture, of people. Sometimes I work in clay and have figures cast in bronze, but it's expensive." Melody nods, listening. At your table, Melody says "What else?" At your table, Roberta says "I try to follow dianic wicca, I know herbs quite well. Mostly I spend my time either making art or looking for things to draw." At your table, Melody says "Dianic because men suck, or Dianic because you feel close to the Lady?" At your table, Roberta says "Men don't suck. Well not really. Dianic becuase most of the literature I've taught myself only mentions the Goddess or has her much the stronger. Some made a case for equality but the actual books didn't, mmmm, have the right feel to me."" At your table, Melody says "OK...what are your sources?" Melody seems...cautious. At your table, Roberta says "'To Ride a Silver Broomstick' by Silver Ravenwolf, 'The Spiral Dance' by Starhawk, 'Witchcraft for Tommorow' by Doreen Valiente, and 'Wicca, the old religion in the new age' by Vivianne Crowley." Melody relaxes a little. At your table, Melody says "Well, none bad. How about the Farrars?" At your table, Roberta says "I've not heard of them I'm afraid." At your table, Melody makes a face. "OK, what about Gardner?" At your table, Roberta says "Sorry, just the ones I named, really." At your table, Melody says "Well..that can be amended." She gives you a warm smile. "What's your personal style?" At your table, Roberta hesitates and asks "Personal style? Um, what exactly do you want to know about?" At your table, Melody says "Anything you feel like sharing." At your table, Roberta says "I don't really do much. I try, hard, to keep the Rede in mind all the time, when I'm doing anything. I celebrate the Sabbats, mainly by meditation." At your table, Melody says "What's your take on the Rede?" At your table, Roberta pauses, a little puzzled by the question. "You should not do harm in your life to other people. You should try to consider what you may cause. Basically no carelessness or maliciousness." At your table, Melody says "And yourself?" At your table, Roberta nods. "I am a person too. But not one more important then the others." At your table, Melody mmms. "Not quite the answer I was looking for, but it'll do. Have you ever been taught, or have you learned from books?" At your table, Roberta says "I've only ever learnt from books, and the world." At your table, Melody says "Good answer." Melody thinks a moment. At your table, Roberta blushes a little "thank you." At your table, Melody says "Have you done a self-initiation? Or dedication?" Melody grins back. At your table, Roberta says "A dedication, yes. I said I would learn. I didn't feel, well, brave enough for a full initiation." At your table, Melody nods. She grins again. "Afraid of what you'd find?" At your table, Roberta blushes, "that yes and well, not being sure of myself." At your table, Melody says "How's your divinitory skills?" At your table, Roberta says "I think they're poor." At your table, Melody says "What do you use?" At your table, Roberta says "Tarot cards, they're the only thing I seem to have even marginal success with." At your table, Melody says "Have you tried scrying?" At your table, Roberta says "Using a bowl or a mirror? Not with success." At your table, Melody says "Even on Samhain?" At your table, Roberta looks blank a moment, then goes quite red. "I've never thought to do anything but the celebration on the sabats." At your table, Melody grins. "OK. Just asking. Any questions you have for me?" At your table, Roberta nods "What sort of tradition do you follow? Have you been practicing long? What kind of people are you looking for?" At your table, Melody says "Well, I've been practicing since I was a junior in college, and I'm working on my doc now." At your table, Roberta nods, listening At your table, Melody says "As for what kind of people...I'm sort of looking for students." At your table, Roberta nods and asks, hopefully "what kind of students?" At your table, Melody says "Depends on what I find." At your table, Roberta bites her lip an hesitates before saying "I'd like to learn more." At your table, Melody says "What would you like to learn?" At your table, Roberta says "More about Wicca, about the Goddess and the world." At your table, Melody says "What about the God?" At your table, Roberta says "I'm willing to learn more. He certanly hasn't played much part in what I've learnt so far though." At your table, Melody says "Why should I take you as a student?" At your table, Roberta blinks, the offers "Because I desire to learn and will gain from the teaching?" At your table, Melody says "Why else?" At your table, Roberta thinks for a while, looking progressively more worried. "Because the faith should be carried on. Because it helps the Goddess to have another person conserned about the world. Um." At your table, Melody says "But why YOU, Roberta?" At your table, Roberta says "Because I want to learn." At your table, Melody says "Are you willing to suffer to learn?" Melody looks at you keenly. At your table, Roberta nods. "I won't make promises about how much though." At your table, Melody says "Not good enough." At your table, Melody says "The Goddess isn't just the lily-white New Agers paint her to be. Starhawk will tell you that." At your table, Roberta nods. "I don't think it'll be easy, and I don't think I'm superhuman. I will do what I can. How much that is I don't know. As I said, I am willing to suffer to learn. I can't make promises about how much." Melody looks at you for a very, very long moment. At your table, Roberta waits quietly for your judgement. At your table, Melody at last says "Well. I can at least do Ritual with you." At your table, Roberta nods "Thank you." At your table, Melody says "What's your take on sexuality?" At your table, Roberta says "Lesbian mostly, no other strange interests. Men are ok but it's a rare one that catches my eye. I'm not in an exclusive relationship with anyone. I would like to be one day." At your table, Melody nods. "Helps explain the Dianic too." At your table, Roberta chuckles "I do feel the literature is at least partially to blame for that. Mmm, have you ever read Gael Baudino's fiction, for example?" At your table, Melody shakes her head. "Can't say I have." At your table, Roberta ahhs. "She's a Dianic Wiccan and it shows up in her work, strongly. And so on." She shrugs. At your table, Melody grins. "I'm a history masters. Who has time to read fiction?" At your table, Roberta chuckles. "I love to read, so I read lots of things." At your table, Melody says "So do I, but last time I read a fiction book was...2004?" Roberta nods. "Sorry to hear that." At your table, Melody says "Nah, it's all right. I chose an easy road, really I did." Melody grins. At your table, Roberta mmms "If you say so. Art Degree's are supposed to be easy, but I love my work and put much effort into it. I doubt you do less." At your table, Melody says "Well. Litha is in three weeks." At your table, Roberta says "Litha?" At your table, Melody says "Solstice." At your table, Roberta nods "Yes it is." At your table, Roberta says "Whould you wish me to take part with you in the celebration?" At your table, Melody says "I'm thinking about it." At your table, Roberta nods. "Ok." At your table, Melody says "Do you have any other questions?" At your table, Roberta says "Do you want to meet again? Would you like my address and phone number?" At your table, Melody says "You left it on my voice mail, right?" At your table, Roberta says "I left my phone number." She jots down her full address - room 204 at the university dorms. "This is my address." Melody nods, writing it down in her notebook. At your table, Melody says "Sorry if I seem intimidating. It's just, I've seen so many people who don't really understand what it takes to REALLY be a witch." At your table, Roberta nods. "I don't know that I do. I know that a lot of the books, including the ones I've read are very much new age and gloss over things. I want to try." At your table, Melody says "It's not at all easy. It takes a lot of dedication to be a priestess." At your table, Roberta nods "I wouldn't expect it to be different from any other faith in that regard." At your table, Melody says "It is. It's harder." At your table, Roberta nods. "I shall strive to meet the chalenge." Melody gives you another warm smile. At your table, Melody says "If you're serious about it, I'll know soon enough." At your table, Roberta smiles back. "I'm serious about it." Her mouth querks. "I don't know that we meen the same thing by Wicca, but I am serious about it." At your table, Melody says "One thing. I am not a "Wiccan" in the Scott Cunningham-Ray Buckland-Llewellyn sense. I am a pagan and I am a witch." At your table, Roberta considers that a moment. She says quietly "More differences to resolve?" At your table, Melody says "Maybe just a matter of breaking out of old habits." At your table, Roberta nods quietly. At your table, Melody checks the time again. At your table, Roberta says "Thank you for spending the time to talk to me. I deeply appreciate it." At your table, Melody says "Not a problem, but I do need to go." She writes down some book names and passes them to you. "Here." At your table, Roberta nods and takes the paper "thank you." At your table, Melody says "Read those, give me a call." At your table, Roberta nods "I will, and soon." Melody grins. Melody gets up from The small table in the dark corner. You say, "Blessed be, little sister." Roberta says, "Blessed Be." You head out of the Library, RahRah waving gaily.
