melody - Thursday, March 04, 1999, 2:16 PM ------------------------------------------ Danielle is wandering up the street quietly... Melody is waiting for the bus. Drago moves along the street quietly, almost wraithlike with his coloration. Danielle stops and tilts her head as she stops and watches Danielle hmmms quietly though just bites her lip as if she's afraid to say anything to anyone. Melody glances over at the odd tableau. Drago moves quietly still, stark white hair floating on the wind sometimes, as he moves on down the road. Drago heads north towards Pack Square and the center of downtown Asheville. Danielle sighs again and stops at the bus stop... looking around Melody moves over. Danielle nods gently in silent thanks You say, "No problem." Danielle sits down on the bench and simply says "Which bus are you waiting for?" You say, "The one to the University." Danielle says, "You go to school there?" You say, "I teach there." Danielle blinks a bit "Really? You don't look much older than myself." Melody grins. "TAs are a good thing." Danielle chuckles "Oh yeah. I was one once. You say, "What subject?" Danielle says, "Psychology actually. I was helping out a professor there. Of course I am trying to finish." You say, "What's your specialty?" Danielle says, "Social Psychiatry... though I am trying to expand to my own field," You say, "What's your field?" Danielle says, "I want to do something similar to Music therapy but with visual art." You say, "Yeah? Sounds interesting." Melody's voice is polite. Danielle smiles a little bit though it only masks her eyes before they look down "Yeah..." Danielle sees her bus is here and stands "Well um... nice talking to you..." You say, "Take care!" Danielle nods and climbs into the bus Danielle heads north towards Pack Square and the center of downtown Asheville. Melody catches her bus and goes over to Roberta's. Melody knocks on the door. Roberta opens the door for you. "Hi! Be welcome and enter." She smiles. The room looks tidy, and it doesn't look like a hasty job. What is noticable is a pot of coffee, and 6 scones set on a plate. Melody enters, with a rather full backpack. "Thanks. Oooh, that smells good." Roberta smiles. "Shop bought, I'm afraid." she winks, "Next time, give more notice!" You say, "Sorry. It was an impulse." Roberta says, "Don't worry, I welcome your company, truely." Melody sets down her backpack on the floor carefully. Roberta says, "Would you like some coffee? A scone?" You say, "Not until after. Mind if I set up?" Roberta says, "Please, go ahead." Melody opens her backpack. She takes out a circular red cloth, spreading it on the room's floor. Roberta keeps out of the way, just clearing things if they get in your way, her eyes watching. Melody sets out candles at the cardinal points, and in the very center she places a convex black mirror. Barely visible in this light, faint darker lines crisscross its surface. Roberta blinks a little and looks on curiosly, glancing at the candles, noting colours, and looking back at the mirror. Melody then brings out a small baggie of herbs, looking up at you. "Got any hot water, and are you allergic to anything you know of?" Roberta says, "Hot or boiling? And nothing except lots of strawberries." You say, "Stuff to make tea. OK, well, nothing in this is a member of the strawberry family." Roberta nods "I'll fill the kettle." She takes up a jug kettle and fills it, returning to plug it in. "Anyway, it's only if I eat many, not just one or two." Melody nods. She starts measuring the herbs into a tea ball. Roberta watches quietly, looking to see if she recognises any of the herbs They're dried and ground. You smell mints. Roberta blinks and darts out, comming back with a teapot. "Will this help?" Melody looks up. "Sure. Thanks!" She measures a bit more in. Roberta smiles and watches as you assemble the herb ball. Melody dunks the herb ball into the water to start the infusion. "So. You've never scried before?" Roberta says, "I've never scried successfully, before now." You say, "Have you tried?" Roberta nods "A couple of times, yes. Not with any real success." You say, "What did you experience?" Roberta says, "most of the time nothing. A few times I saw patterns of colours. I couldn't make anything of them." Melody nods. "Good enough." She checks the tea, then shakes her head. "When did you try?" Roberta bites her lip a moment, then says "Waxing moons, normally. A few other times when i wanted to know something badly." Melody nods. "It's easiest to try on Dark Moons and Samhain at first, not that you did anything wrong!" She smiles reassuringly. "It's just that's easier." Roberta nods. "I understood the waxing moon to be a supplier of power. I felt that I wasn't putting enough in, which is why i tried then. I take it control is more important?" You say, "It's not control. It's more like currents." Roberta nods. "Ahh." She glances at the mirror again. You say, "Like tides, maybe. It's easier to swim back to shore when the tide's going in." Roberta nods. "or easyer to see the small currents, when the big ones are week?" Melody nods. "Sometimes." She checks the tea again. Roberta nods and smiles, relaxing a bit. "I'll learn." You say, "I know you will." Roberta nods once more. You say, "Got teacups?" Roberta says, "I've got mugs, I could borrow teacups if you prefer?" You say, "Mugs will do." Roberta nods and hands you a pair of mugs, "here, try these." Melody pours the mugs about half full. Roberta watches carefully, again, not wanting to miss anything. Melody hands you one. "Drink up. I like it without sweetener, you may want some." Roberta takes a sip of it, then a swallow "I'll drink it like this." It tastes faintly minty, and pleasant. Melody drinks her own almost with gusto, as if she's gotten to the point she really likes it. Roberta drinks hers deeply, finding it unusual but not unpleasent. You say, "This has a few things that help open the Sight." Roberta nods "I hope they work, very much." Roberta finishes her half mug fairly quickly, though not quite with your gusto. After a few moments, the glow in the room seems slightly different..a little, well, oranger. Vine gets up and turns out all the lights, leaving the candles glowing and reflecting off the mirror's surface. Roberta blinks a little to herself looking round. Melody draws a knife and slashes her palm. Roberta winces a little at that, and holds her hand out a little, palm up. Melody looks at you. "Are you ready?" Roberta says softly "I believe so." She's certanly ready for what she expects to happen. Melody turns the blade so its clean edge is toward you and cuts. She's good: it doesn't come near anything needed, like tendons, and the shallow slice is barely felt. Roberta gasps a little, clearly tensed for a much more intense feeling. She looks at her hand with a wince and wriggles her fingers. Melody holds her hand, bleeding palm down, over the mirror. Roberta looks at you, "Should I do the same?" Melody nods. "You should. I'll cast the circle as you do." Roberta nods "yes Melody." She puts her hand over the mirror before turning it over, letting the blood drip onto it, concentrating on it as you cast the circle. Melody casts the circle, letting drops of blood fall on the floor as she does. You feel it go up, encasing you in safety. Roberta ahhs softly as she feels it, but continues to concentrate on the mirror. Melody returns to sit across from you in the circle. The mirror is now red and black: the deeper lines standing out in a maze against the reflection. Roberta blinks a little and looks at you, then back at the mirror. Melody smiles and directs "Gaze into the mirror." Roberta leans forward and looks into the mirror, her hand drifting away a little, to the edge. The mirror seems to float, black in a sea of red. Roberta looks into it and asks "what should I do?" Melody's voice is low. "Just gaze into it and let your mind drift." Roberta does her best to do as you say, looking into the mirror quietly, not letting anything distract her. You feel a warmth surrounding you, the red and black lines seeming to swim but not blur. Roberta gasps softly, keeping her eyes on the mirror as it starts to swim before her. She opens her mouth, then closes it again. She watches still and waits. That's all that seems to happen for a long time. If you try not to blink, your eyes start to burn, but the glow increases. Roberta watches quietly, blinking as little as she can, staring into the centre of the mirror. It starts to seem...cloudy? under the lines. Roberta looks intently, trying to make out what's she's seeing. The swirl fades, finally. But it was...something! Something different than before. Roberta gives a soft sigh as the swerl fades, not taking her eyes away for now, hoping something else will appear. Melody says softly "Did you see something?" Roberta looks away and to you. "I saw something. Swerls rather then colours this time." Melody nods. "Like clouds?" Roberta nods "yes, like clouds." You say, "Good. Your Sight is starting to come." Roberta says, "It is?" Roberta grins, widely. "Wow!" Melody nods, grinning. "You need to practice." Roberta nods "I do. i do this every time?" You say, "Yes, but when you cut yourself, cut just enough to bleed, no deeper." Roberta nods. "I won't, trust me on that. I am /very/ fond of my hands." You say, "You also don't have to cut your hands." Roberta closes her eyes briefly and lets out a quick sigh of relief, before looking at you. "Accross my forearm?" She motions across the outside of her forearm, not the inside "or somewhere else?" You say, "Anywhere you want." Roberta nods. "Ok. How do i make that tea?" You say, "I'll give you some, if you want." Roberta nods "Please? I'd appreciate it. And, well, how often is safe?" You say, "It's safe so long as you're not pregnant." Roberta nods "I'm not." She grins at you "for, ah, obvious reasons." Melody grins. "Then you're fine." She cleans up and leaves shortly after, letting you meditate in peace. Roberta nods "THank you.
